Residence Permit in Albania: Guide for All Nationalities
Albania offers several pathways to obtain a residence permit — through property ownership, employment, business registration, or passive income.
Albania offers one of the most accessible residence permit systems in Europe. Five clear pathways cover almost every profile, with paperwork handled in 30–60 days.
1. Property ownership
Owning real estate of any value gives you the right to apply for a 1-year renewable residence permit. After 5 consecutive years you become eligible for permanent residence.
2. Employment
An Albanian employment contract (with a registered local employer) plus a work permit grants a 1-year residence card aligned with the contract length.
3. Business / self-employment
Registering an LLC (SHPK) in Albania with a minimum capital of just 100 LEK (~€1) makes you eligible for a residence permit as a business owner or administrator.
4. Passive income / retirement
Proof of stable monthly income from abroad (pension, dividends, rental income) above €1,000/month qualifies you for a non-working residence permit.
5. Family reunification
Spouses, minor children, and dependent parents of an Albanian resident or citizen can apply on family grounds.
Required documents
Valid passport (6+ months), clean criminal record from your home country (apostilled), proof of accommodation in Albania, health insurance, proof of financial means, and the application form from e-Albania (the national online portal).
Processing time and cost
Government fee: €100–€200. Processing: 30 days for first issuance, 15 days for renewals. The card is biometric and valid across Albania.
